ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Parents who don't have fishing licenses can ice fish without one this weekend, if they take a kid fishing. Minnesotans age 16 or older can try ice fishing without buying angling licenses if they take a child younger than 16 fishing during the Take-A-Kid Ice Fishing Weekend, which runs Saturday through Monday. Several state parks are offering ice fishing clinics this weekend. They feature indoor presentations on ice fishing safety, gear and techniques, and the chance to fish outside. A daily or annual vehicle permit is required to enter state parks. Mike Kurre, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources mentoring program coordinator, says there's no better time than a long holiday weekend to introduce somebody to ice fishing.
